Category: Advanced | SAO Hollow Realization Guide

Defeat the Garden Tyrant, the flower fields region boss. Complete attack pattern breakdown, party setup, and strategy for every phase of this plant-type boss fight.

Garden Tyrant Overview The Garden Tyrant is the massive plant boss that waits at the end of the flower fields region and its associated dungeon. This boss is a significant step up from early-game bosses, with multiple attack types, add spawns, poison mechanics, and multiple phases. Many players hit their first major wall against this boss on their first try, but once you learn its patterns, it becomes straightforward.

Recommended Party and Preparation • Party: Lisbeth (tank/stagger), Asuna (heals/DPS), and your choice for third slot. Sinon works well for ranged safety during poison phases; Premiere works if you want extra DPS and support. • Consumables: HP potions, antidotes (CRITICAL for this fight), SP potions. • Setup: Make sure your weapon is upgraded and your skill palette includes at least one AoE skill for clearing adds.

Player Tip: Before you even enter the boss arena, make sure you have the teleport stone right before the boss activated. If you die, you restart there -- a huge convenience.

Phase 1: Basic Attacks At the start of the fight, the Garden Tyrant uses basic attacks: • Vine whips -- Two horizontal vine sweeps from left and right. Dodge backward or Perfect Guard the second sweep. • Bite/root strike -- A forward lunging bite or root attack. Dodge sideways. • Seed projectiles -- It spits seeds in a spread pattern. Block or dodge through them; they do moderate damage if they hit. During this phase, stay at its sides and chip away with attacks. Let Lisbeth build stagger at the front. When stagger happens, trigger Switch for big damage. Keep an eye on your HP and use antidotes immediately if you get poisoned.

Phase 2: Poison Cloud and Adds When the boss drops to roughly two-thirds HP, it starts using more dangerous mechanics: • Poison cloud -- The boss releases a large purple poison cloud around itself. This lingers for several seconds and deals continuous poison damage if you stay inside. Back off immediately when you see this animation start. • Add spawn -- It summons smaller plant minions. These do not have much HP individually, but they can interrupt your combos and add chip damage. Use AoE skills to clear them quickly. • Vine wave -- A line of vines erupts from the ground in a straight direction. Dodge sideways. During poison clouds, disengage completely until the cloud dissipates. Use this time to heal if needed or to kill any remaining adds. After the cloud clears, move back in and resume attacking.

Phase 3: Enrage and Final Push At low HP (around one-third), the boss enrages: • Attacks become faster and more frequent. • Poison clouds come out more often. • It may spawn adds multiple times. • Its vine attacks cover wider areas. This is the burn phase. You should use SP potions aggressively to maintain your SSC chains during stagger windows. Do not get greedy -- if it starts a poison cloud, get out. But when you do get openings, unload everything. Keep Asuna alive at all costs -- if she goes down, your healing becomes potion-only which is much harder to sustain. Stay patient, prioritize survival during poison phases, and capitalize on every stagger window. The Garden Tyrant falls to consistent, methodical play rather than reckless aggression.
