Sinon is your dedicated ranged archer in SAO: Hollow Realization. Master her positioning, charged shots, and weak point targeting to maximize her sniper DPS in your party.
Sinon's Combat Role
Sinon fills the ranged DPS role in your party, picking off enemies from a distance with bow attacks. She is invaluable against bosses with devastating close-range attacks because she can stay well outside of danger while continuing to deal consistent damage. If a boss fight is giving you trouble because its melee attacks hit too hard or cover too wide an area, swapping Sinon in for a melee ally often turns the tide.
She uses the Bow weapon exclusively, with charged shots, weak point precision, and special arrow types that apply various effects. She does not tank hits and she does not heal, but she provides consistent, safe damage from the back line.
How Sinon Fights
Understanding Sinon's AI behavior helps you use her effectively:
• Positioning -- Sinon automatically tries to maintain optimal range from enemies. She will reposition if enemies get too close rather than staying in melee range.
• Charged shots -- She charges her bow shots for increased damage rather than spamming weak rapid fire. This means her DPS is not as constant as melee characters, but each hit hits harder.
• Weak point targeting -- The AI is surprisingly good at hitting weak points on enemies and bosses. You will see frequent critical hits from her when targets are stationary or staggered.
• Status arrows -- She sometimes uses special arrows that apply status effects or debuffs to enemies, making them more vulnerable to your melee attacks.
• Less frequent Switch -- Because she is at range, Sinon responds to Switch opportunities slightly less reliably than melee allies. She is excellent when Switch opportunities present themselves at range, but she will not chase into melee just to follow up.
Player Tip: Sinon is less effective in narrow dungeon corridors where she cannot maintain proper range. In tight spaces, she may get stuck on geometry or be forced into melee where she is fragile. Use her in open field areas and boss arenas with space; swap to a melee ally for cramped dungeons.
Maximizing Sinon's Damage
To get the most out of Sinon in your party:
• Let her maintain distance. If you charge in recklessly, enemies may turn and chase you, moving them out of Sinon's optimal firing position. Try to hold enemies in place with staggers (from Lisbeth or your own attacks) so Sinon can land charged shots.
• When you stagger or stun a boss, Sinon will land charged critical hits on the weak point. Try to trigger Switch to her during these windows for massive ranged follow-up damage.
• Watch for her special arrow effects. If she applies a defense debuff to an enemy, that is your cue to unload your strongest SSC chain -- the enemy is taking extra damage for a brief window.
• Equip her with the best bow you find. NPC allies benefit significantly from upgraded gear just like you do. Check her equipment periodically and give her better bows/armor as you find them.
When to Use Sinon
Sinon is the right choice for:
• Bosses with powerful close-range AoE or melee combos that make melee party members take heavy damage.
• Open field areas with room to maneuver.
• Flying enemies that are hard to reach with melee weapons.
• Pulling enemies from a distance without engaging entire groups.
She is less ideal for:
• Narrow dungeon corridors where she cannot maintain range.
• Fights that require constant Switch chains (melee allies are better here because they are always in range).
• Fast, mobile enemies that constantly close distance -- she will spend more time running than shooting.
Raise Sinon's affinity by bringing her on adventures, making logical/calm dialogue choices (she appreciates pragmatism and cool-headedness), and giving her rare ores or materials related to bow crafting. At higher affinity, her aim improves and she uses her strongest charge shots more frequently.
